Alhamdulillah, the staff and students at ISNA high got off to a great start this year. We welcomed several new staff members and many new students. It’s been a record-breaking year. We’ve never had this many OCT qualified teachers, we’ve never had more students, we’ve never had greater attendances at our events and one might say we’ve never looked to the future with more confidence and excitement. MashaAllah! Our staff and students have worked very hard this year to bring forth some highly successful and exciting events and programs. Such as the IMAAN program that helps us recognize who display an outstanding and exemplary attitude in the school, and the REP and LIFE programs where students can learn from each other, their teachers and Shuyukh at ISNA and in the community at large. We hope to continue this trend of success and excitement throughout the year. We will need the cooperation and participation of Parents and students to do this. We encourage everyone to show initiative and take part in as many exciting clubs, programs and events as you can. This is your school, and you have the power to make positive changes in it inshaAllah.

With another month down, we only have a few more weeks until the semester ends. This month, ISNA students had a nice pile of exciting events to talk about.
We had the Class Decorating Competition, which gave a nice introduction to Hajj and then we had our Mock Hajj, which was an actual step-by-step demonstration from the students themselves of Hajj.
For the Class Decorating Competition the grade nine girls came in first place with a beautiful, creative display of the stages of Hajj. The grade ten girls also had a very impressive display and won second place. It was a nice way to keep the students aware of the Holy Pilgrimage that was going on at the other end of the world.
Additionally, after our Eid Holidays, we had Eid Fun Day and the girls had a very amusing trip to Laser Quest, which also included a beneficial session about leadership qualities. This trip was a very popular topic to discuss even days after the event was over.
The boys chose against having a trip and just brought in video games to play, along with other entertaining activities to do at school. We had a Spoken Word Competition, which gave ISNA students the option of submitting a poem about Eid, Hajj, or the Hijab. Our first place winner was Omar Khawaja with a beautiful poem about Hajj.
On the subject of Hijab, we had the Truth Behind the Veil event, which occurred during the starting of the month, and was organized by our very own ISNA students, with much effort put in by Sabeen Kazmi.
It was an amazing night in which Sheikh Alaa, Rani Khan, Rabia Khedr, and Farheen Khan gave very interesting speeches about the Hijab and the Niqaab. We’d like to give our personal thanks to our hardworking teachers and fellow students alike.

The last month of the decade rolled in smoothly, ushering in a lot of activity and buzz on the ISNA High campus. With studies, classes and work, all ISNA High staff and students were busy, busy and BUSY!
On behalf of all the ISNA High students, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Ms. J. Sweiss for inviting Bonaa Mohammed. Students were awestruck and inspired greatly with his amazing poetry. His energy was transmitted to the audience and by the end of his small, yet wonderful performance, everyone was on their feet, applauding loudly.
Additionally, the tenth graders had an amazing day out at the Ontario Science Centre (OSC), experiencing its many wonders.
Beautiful, white flurries marked the start of the winter season, which was unusually delayed this year. Bundled up in sweaters, coats and woolens, students finally had to zip up their jackets and pull on their snow boots. Everyone was prepared for yet another cold and frosty winter.
The long, awaited winter break finally approached. The 18th of December was our last school day of 2009 that coincided with the 1st of Muharram. During the break, students eventually got time to relax and look forward to the start of a challenging new decade, and also to all the fun-filled activities ISNA High has in store for all of us!
